Event Planning that Breaks Records

Synopsis

-

The recurring Maus Habitos' Cinema à Mesa brings together food, drinks, and entertainment on a weeknight to help people explore art and culture.

We hosted the event and managed PR, networking with cinematographers from top networks like the Cannes and Nowness. By curating a timeline of films that appealed to our target audience, we ensured the art and culture space was overbooked.

Result: The space was completely sold out, and people were still eager to join, even sitting on the floor after all seats were taken.

Designing Ads That Turn Followers Into Customers

-

Maus Hábitos, Cinema à Mesa

Graphic design was the most important part of this project. We wanted people to see the graphics and know the mood of the event in a split second, without having to read any of the text. We wanted them to know this is for them, our target audience, and not for just anyone. It’s a well-documented fact that most people scroll through social media and only look at posts for an average of three seconds.

The internet is full of ads all fighting for attention. Instead of trying to get everyone's attention, we wanted to reach the right people; those who would actually attend. We used all we know about how social media algorithms work to make sure our ad was shown to the people most likely to show up.

how we planned our ads

Making Ads that Stand out on Social Media

-

Maus Hábitos - Cinema à Mesa

We chose specific colors, shapes, and fonts to grab attention in just a few seconds and keep it long enough to share information about the event.

The first thing people see is the bright red of the food on the skateboard. This is by design. Red is a color our brains are wired to notice right away. It's the color of blood, and that’s why important warnings, like stop signs, are built with it.

This makes it a powerful tool to use in our composition. After we have their focus, the design then guides their eyes to a photo of the film event. This tells them what the event is about and why they should want to join.

We carefully balanced all the elements to be readable, exciting, and informative. Some of our designs might look chaotic, but they were made to entertain and inform our specific audience, who appreciates this kind of style.

how we structured our captions

Sidewalk AF is turning one, and we're celebrating! We'd love for all of you—both new and familiar faces—to join us.

📅 February 7th, Wednesday, 9 PM 🎥 Short films session (approx. 90min) 💵 Free Entry

In partnership with the arts and culture hub @maushabitos, we're hosting a screening of short films about skate and urban culture. This special session pays homage to the community's spirit through the cinematic lens of various internationally renowned filmmakers. (Check slide 2)

Entry is free, and reservations are accepted. See you soon 🛹🔥

We designed our captions to match the graphics. Our text was to be engaging and informative, with a clear call to action that encourages people to attend the event.

We ensured that everything necessary was included, including additional event details (when, where, and how the event is happening), as well as links to register at the end of the post. This makes it easy for our audience to take the next step and book; otherwise, we will convert less traffic to sales.

"i think we’re out of chairs and tables, but if you really want to, you can sit on the ground and watch the movies."

Films that Freeze Attention

-

Curating a Selection of Short Films

The feedback from the audience and staff was overwhelmingly positive. I'm proud to say I only saw one person with a phone during the entire event. Everyone's eyes were locked on the screen, anxiously waiting for what would come next. It was a true testament to the kind of experience we built—one so engaging that people didn't feel the need to escape into their digital world.

Our list of short films

Before our partnership with Maus Hábitos, we had already built relationships with renowned film directors from around the world. These were creators featured by and commissioned for major platforms like National Geographic, the Cannes Film Festival, and Vice.

We were surprised to find that directors behind such big hits were so easy to work with and were eager to participate. It’s possible this was because they were also part of the very audience we were trying to reach.

OUR CAMPAIGN RESULTS

sold out 100% capacity

The restaurant was fully booked and staffed to handle the crowd.

Even though we ran out of seats, the turnout was so great that people were happy to sit on the floor just to be there.

IMPROVED reputation

We strategically set up our service as a free event. By offering free entry, we built a community and capitalized on the power of reciprocity to generate more profit than we would have by selling tickets.

This approach also improved our reputation and built trust with clients, setting us apart from our competitors.

free events that turn profit

The event was free, but with all profits coming from food and drink sales.

We scheduled the event for the late afternoon, making it accessible for those leaving work. This encouraged them to buy food and drinks, providing a return on investment that we would not have seen if we had charged an entry fee.

It was also an easy way to attract more people to join.

GET NEW CUSTOMERS WHILE YOU SLEEP

By designing our events this way, we built a community that would ask for more events, follow our future projects, and want to know more about the brand.

Four people sitting at a restaurant table, engaging in conversation, with two women smiling and two men, one wearing a beanie, looking at a menu.
